Holiday Gifts Store

As you may know, eBay is one of the best places to shop online. It has become a household name, primarily because of all the products that you have to choose from. For instance, you can buy real estate, cars, clothing, toys, pet supplies, home décor, entertainment items, and much more on eBay.  Basically, anything you are looking for, including the unique and unusual, may be found on eBay.

While eBay is a great place to do your holiday shopping and find some bargains in the process, there are some safety tips you should follow before you buy. Below are our Top 7 suggestions.

  1. Check the seller's feedback. A positive feedback rating over 95% is good. If there is a lot of negative feedback, then you should probably steer clear of the seller.
  2. The seller should have some kind of identification or recognition seal like Paypal verified, or Square trade or a Powerseller seal on the auctions. Such sellers are more reliable. This is especially a good check when you buying an expensive item.
  3. If you are buying something expensive, then get the contact information of the seller. You have to login to your eBay account and send a request. You can get the seller's address and phone number. In doing this, your address and phone number will also be emailed to the seller.
  4. Research prices for the item you want to purchase. For example, if you want to buy an iPod Touch 8 GB, then search for this model on a shopping site like shopping.yahoo.com or shopping.msn.com. If it retails for $240 on Yahoo and a seller on eBay is selling a brand new one for $90, then this item may be defective! Large wholesalers are able to sell items for around 50% of retail but something like an iPod has very small margins, so it is unlikely that a reputable seller would sell one for $90.
  5. If the seller has not mentioned any shipping and handling terms, then ask before bidding. You don't want any surprises if you get the winning bid.
  6. Reliable sellers have clear descriptions of their refund policy. If it is not there, then ask the seller for it. If the seller has no refund policy, then do not bid on the item. Alternatively, get the refund policy from the seller in an email.
  7. Do a search for the seller's past items on eBay. Check to see if the seller has sold similar items in the past. To search on the past auctions, go to the Advanced Search page. Next, click on the items by seller link and type in the sellers ID and check the box for Include Completed listing. It is always good to check this especially if you are considering an expensive purchase.
