Ripstik: The Ultimate Skating Experience

20 November 2008 227 views 3 Comments Print This Post Email This Post

Say goodbye to skateboards and hello to the ultimate skating experience on concrete and pavement. Ripstik is a ground breaking caster board that acts like a skateboard/snowboard hybrid. It is the perfect ride for kids looking for the next big thrill. The board is distinguished by its pivoting deck and 360-degree inclined caster trucks, which offer a snowboard-like carving ability. A simple weight transfer lets you turn or accelerate without pushing, just like when you're carving down the slopes.

The Ripstik, named 2008's outdoor toy of the year by the Toy Industry Association, lets riders accelerate and even ride uphill without pushing off the ground by shifting their body weight atop its two rotating platforms and wheels that turn 360 degrees. And here’s the kicker, the board improves balance and fine motor control.

Your kid will be able to carve out sick stunts and tricks with this extreme grind machine. It is important, however, that they wear protective gear such as a helmet and elbow and knee pads before they get too carried away. Also, the Ripstick Caster Board is recommended for kids over age 8 or under 220 pounds. Riding on wet pavement should be avoided.

My kids love these – I tried to use it and almost killed myself! I wrote about them on my blog because I believe in kids fitness and these are good exercise for them because of how you have to move them.

I haven’t been brave enough to try one yet, so kudos to you! This is definitely a great way for kids to get off the couch and stay fit.

I’ve seen these ripsticks all over but wanted to get some help deciding what to buy. I’ve seen this new board out there called pumpRockr. It looks and feels a lot closer to surfing than anything I’ve ridden before. For those of you out there that are ripstick lovers can you tell me what you think is better, the pumpRockr or the Ripstick?

    Thanks,

    Smitty
